Morrisville Assembly No. 107 stuffed stockings for The Salvation Army in Levittown as part of its ongoing service to help those in need in Lower Bucks County. Over a 3-month period, the Assembly received funds from local Masonic fraternities to buy the items to fill 390 Christmas stockings for less fortunate children. On December 21, 2009, the girls, along with help from members of the newly established Delaware Valley Chapter of DeMolay, spent several hours stuffing and then sorting stockings for The Salvation Army’s Christmas distribution.
According to Kathryn Webster, “Morrisville Assembly has been participating in this project for the past 5 years and each year our Masonic sponsors have been incredibly generous in providing the funds to buy items to fill the stockings. It is a wonderful project that brings a smile to each child in need over the holiday season.”
In 2009, over $1,300 in donations were received from local Lodges, OES Chapters, and Amaranth Courts. “There was a tremendous need in our community this year due to the downturn in the economy. The Assembly’s help to fill this need was very much appreciated,” according to JulieAnn Ody, Resource Development Manager of the Salvation Army’s Levittown Corps.
On December 23, 2009, Rainbow and DeMolay members returned to help out with the 7-hour distribution where over 800 families received food, clothing, and toys as well as stockings.
Now that the holidays are over, the Assembly is already busy in 2010 collecting food items for The Salvation Army’s food pantry. |
